How the landed cost of gifts is worked out

Which weight you are charged

Air carriers may charge on actual or dimensional weight, whichever is greater, under the selected service’s rules. For an illustrative calculation, divide the carton volume in cubic centimetres by an assumed factor of 6000 to get kilograms.

Illustration only: a hypothetical 60 × 40 × 40 cm carton is 96,000 cm³, or 16 kg at that factor. If it weighs 4 kg, its illustrative chargeable weight is 16 kg. The actual factor and rounding must be checked with the carrier; this is a calculation, not a quote.

What actually reduces the bill

Repacking at the warehouse: measure the packed cartons before and after any safe repacking, then recalculate chargeable weight.
Consolidation: compare a quote for separate booth deliveries with one for the safely consolidated cartons, because handling and chargeable weight can change the result.
Compare a safe flat-packed option with assembled goods, including protection, destination assembly time and any extra labour.
Compare complete sea and air quotes to the same address. Minimums, destination fees, protection and the required receiving date determine whether either option is suitable.

Why a small order costs more per item

A small stock purchase can be possible, but fixed handling and transport charges may make its delivered unit cost unattractive. Compare the quote for that item alone with a consolidated shipment.

Request separate prices for blanks, printing, setup, physical samples and packaging. Some screen or pad-print quotes charge by colour and position; other processes use different models. Confirm the actual minimum and setup structure rather than applying one rule to every method.

Common questions

Why do light gifts cost so much to fly?: Air carriers may charge on dimensional weight when it is greater than actual weight. A carton of light, bulky items takes far more space than its scale weight suggests, so it can cost more to fly than expected.
Does combining booth purchases into one shipment save money?: It can, but not automatically. Compare a quote for separate deliveries with one for the consolidated cartons, because handling and chargeable weight can change the result.
